Hi 5 folks – earth-friendly is the main keyword here – all it would take to eradicate the toxins and most toxic earth-un-friendly chemicals is the super markets to clamp down on these companies who produce them – it needs to be lead by the shoppers who make these super markets as big as they are but unfortunately in todays economy all that matters to the vast majority of folks is the bottom line on the till receipt – toxins or chemical who cares as long as its the cheapest product – we all have that – let someone else worry about saving the planet its not my job I just kinda live on it – huh! – lol

Actually I feel it is safe to say many people who failed this simple quiz can and DO live in a vacuum … of knowledge. Sadly, many marketers, knowing this, take full advantage of this unhealthy public condition. (Shame, Shame, Shame!)

You make a good point – that we need to be more careful in our choice of words. Technically, just about everything is a chemical and casually using the word as a synonym for ‘terrible/poison/danger’, etc., is very unhelpful to understanding our environment. A more precise and accurate term would be “toxin”. There are definitely toxins and chemicals that are more benign in most household products. One way to avoid the whole issue and to save money is to make our own household cleaning products which is what I do most of the time. I noticed a commercial for a toilet cleaning “pad” on TV the other day and checked out the product next time I was in the grocery. The price was very high and I shudder to think of the ingredients going into our water supply. Vinegar is much cheaper, much safer and works incredibly well as a toilet cleaner.

Jim, that is an interesting point that you make. Everything in our world can be classified from a chemical perspective. Some chemicals are more dangerous than others. Water is a healthy chemical, until toxins seep into it through the ground. Then it can be a dangerous, if not deadly chemical. I believe the issue of chemicals revolve around chemical toxicity and how to eliminate or effectively manage toxic chemicals in our lives and environment Thanks!.

Call it a chemical or call them toxins, either way there is danger that has been proven in these toxic cleaning products. I say YES, there are chemicals in cleaning products (that are not green) and YES they are dangerous. We can’t control chemicals and toxins everywhere in our lives, but we can control products that we bring into our homes and that we breathe while we clean, and after.
